First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for readers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, author, summary, review, or prestige, we try to hook Readers with the first line instead?
Psst, I found this in Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!
Rules:
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, or favorite read (Hello, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
First Line(s) Friday Time! Ok. This week is a paragraph
First Line (paragraph)!
My name is Nina Fraser. There’s a good chance you know who I am. You’ve probably seen my picture online and heard my story, and if you have, I guess you’ve already judged me. I mean, not in public, because victim-blaming is a bad look, but in the privacy of your own head, some quiet part of you probably thinks I was stupid or weak or both. Maybe you think that if I’d just stoop up for myself, if I’d just walked away, everything would have been okay. I’m not going to argue with you or try to convince you that you’re wrong. I just want to say, a thing can be crystal clear with hindsight, but just as clear as mud when you’re actually living it. Also, sometimes it’s the walking away that gets you in trouble.

Susan! Don’t you know that I am going to be forced to add this book to my TBR and read it now? I’m going to be forced to read the whole thing to find out what happened to her!
What good is a First Line Friday if it doesn’t extend people’s TBR list?
