Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag
I saw Misty’s Book Space had completed it and figured it was time to stop putting it off! Today is The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag, and although the middle of the year isn’t till July, I thought it was close enough! I have done them in previous years before my hiatus if you want to search for them on my site. Thank you, Misty, for being the first (that I saw) brave soul to get it done. I’m not good with fancy reading graphs and numbers, so this will be pretty straightforward. Reviews (which have summaries) are linked when applicable.
Goodreads Reading Challenge
According to the Goodreads reading challenge, I’ve read 100 of 150 books (67%).
1. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2023?
It hasn’t come out yet, but Champions of Fate by Kendare Blake (see review, which is linked).
2. BEST SEQUEL OF 2023 SO FAR?
This is a harder pick, but in the end, and truthfully with the third book in the Dark And Hollow Star and the sequel to Dark Rise coming out? I don’t think this answer is going to last long. But for now, it is… Playing It Safe By Ashley Weaver, which I buddy read with Becky (both reviews are linked).
3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO?
4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2022?
I’m cheating and picking two, but they are pretty obvious from the above.
Here is my review of Dark Rise. This was a buddy read with Becky and Leah (their reviews are linked).
I was on hiatus when I read the first two of the books in this series with Becky. Her reviews are linked below. I don’t have any.
5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT?
Good Lord, this sounds horrible, but there have been so many. So, I’m going to go with the most recent. A Likeable Woman by May Cobb (review linked).
6. BIGGEST SURPRISE?
HA! Definitely The Street, by Susi Holliday (review linked). I never saw it coming.
7. FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU)?
This was a hard one, but I’m going with Jamie Day (The Block Party– review linked), who has written one of my favorite thrillers of the year.
8. NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER(S)?
Ok- this is cheating, but I did reread it a second time to review it (linked) because it had been a year since I read it last. I’m going with the entire cast of Seraphina Nova Glass’ On A Quiet Street (review linked). I will stan these women forever.
10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY?
None, YET. But I imagine Dark Heir and A Grim and Sunken Vow will (see #4).
11. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU BOUGHT/RECEIVED THIS YEAR?
Ok. I’m cheating a little again. This book hasn’t come out yet, but I’m not a cover person. Yet, this one took my breath away.
I did leave out a couple of questions that didn’t apply to me, but that’s my Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag. What do you think? Do you have any of these questions answered yet? Share!!!
Love this! I’m just scheduling mine now, and I imagine we will have a few similar answers lol
Oh! I can’t wait to see it. I can’t imagine us not having a lot of the same answers lol
I loved Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. I’d love to read more by her.
Omg Yes! I need to read Anna. You need to read 3 Dark Crowns (I reviewed that series) and Champion of Fate!
