First Line Friday
First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for readers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, author, or prestige. We try to hook Readers by the first line, instead?
Psst, I found this at Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!
Rules:
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, favorite read, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
Main Characters Dropping Dead
Look. It is bad luck. The last time I did First Line Friday for a book where the main character dropped dead in the opening lines, it was for Safe Cracker. And unfortunately, that book seems to have been canceled. I really hope this changes because that book was getting really good reviews and looked damn good. We’ll see.
Plus, it is an inconvenience to die at the beginning of your own book. Yet there it is and here we are. So let’s see how it goes this time around, shall we? And just for the sheer novelty of it? I’m kind of sticking to the rules this week!
First Line(s) Friday
Tomman Hail of House Ever-Loyal was going to die before the sun rose.
It wasn’t as heroic as it sounded. It was a lonely, terrible thing. Made worse by the lonely, terrible knowledge weighing on his chest. The secret he’d uncovered.

Cue this song that gets stuck in my head every time I hear this damn title (I thought this was the fun Youtube video to pick for it):
I am looking forward to this buddy read! Especially after that first line.
It is going to be a fun episode, I think! Then again the Fae are always fun. LOL
