This First Line Friday … I Try To Explain Last First Line Friday’s Lack Of Action In The Face Of Hard Truths… What Hard Truths Will You Not Face?

Quick note- I apologize I have not been up and about with blog hopping etc outside of twitter. That's even been scattered the last two days. Fri through Tues has been one of the worst bouts of Insomnia I have ever faced. Usually once or twice a year I go through 3-4 day spout of not sleeping but 3 or 4 hours TOTAL. This has been worse than that outside of a few hours Tuesday night. Finally Thursday afternoon I crashed and slept almost 24 hours straight. It takes more than that to catch up and I hope that my body will rectify itself towards recovering the compounding effects of sleep deprivation. Usually it is 1-3 nights throughout the month that I don't sleep or days here and there that I don't sleep well. This is typical. What happened this past week? Is the worst of even the worst that I expect to happen once or twice a year. Thank you :)

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for readers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, readers are hooked on a book by the first lines?

Psst I found this at Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!

Rules:

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, favorite read, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.

Reflecting On Hard Truths

Last week’s First Line Friday had me face and reflect a repetitive conversation around my book choices that led my mom to constantly ask– WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU FIND THESE BOOKS. I am not shocked, nor should you be, that this time of reflection did not change my book choices. Ironically, the first lines of today’s choice, might lends some reasons as to why, I nor many like to face hard truths.

First Line Friday

We are more likely to deny truth than admit grave error and change our minds. Even in the face of overwhelming evidence or imminent destruction, we refuse to believe in any gods but our own. Who can bear for the ground to dissolve under their feet and the stars to fall from the sky? So we twist every story to preserve our faith.

Side note: These first couple of lines are absolutely breath taking. I cannot wait to dive into the rest of this work. And Subsequently are leading towards faiths and truths much bigger, deeper and ingrained than my joke about last week’s First Line Friday.
