Goodreads Monday: Because Things Are Going Well… Ember In The Ashes By Sabaa Tahir, Anyonoe?

In a year when nothing could surprise anyone. I shouldn't be shocked that my backlist accomplishments for the spring/summer is suddenly being overrun by series!

Goodreads Monday – Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Goodreads Monday is all about what was not planned. I did have backlist books in this year’s spring/summer fling. But I didn’t plan for it to be full of series. The only series that was actually planned, was Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. I didn’t think I would be allowed to live, otherwise. Then I received the ARCs of Aurora Burning and Girls with Razor Hearts (review for both books), which lead to me reading Aurora Rising and Girls with Sharps Sticks (the latter was planned for this summer). As we now all know, Becky “I am Becky. I happened” Crooks Book made me the crash test dummy for Three Dark Crowns (now buddy reading with the lovely Allisa. Thing is? ALL of these series have gone SPECTACULARLY. So, now I’m half-way through and I’m like. BAH! What next. I was kinda bouncing between Ember in the Ashes and Caraval.

I was warned to maybe think through Carval because it is heavier in romance and I have the whole trigger thing. So I am holding off on that one. Bloodleaf may be a possibility down the line, too. Right now, it seems that Ember in the Ashes is the best choice. This is especially true with the conclusion coming to a furious end in December. I still the last half of the Three Dark Crowns to get through. I just posted my One Dark Throne review, yesterday. As soon as it is wrapped up, This will be my next backlist deep dive while I am doing my usual ARC romp!!!

Goodreads Monday

Goodreads Monday is hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners.  All you have to do is show off a book from your TBR that you’re looking forward to reading!

Ember In The Ashes Summary

Should anyone have any objections to this holy union, speak now or forever hold your peace (seriously- tell me now- I have plenty of time, here)! Also quick props to one of my favorite canva graphs ever that only took like 5 minutes and it is simple but the colors just look great and I didn’t do anything…. except get it right the first time and not take hours… but I just think it looks amazing. And I’m sure it’ll never happen again, and that is all.

Ember In The Ashes By Sabaa Tahir

Summary: Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.

Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear. It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.

But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy. There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.
