Top 5 Saturday Retellings and Reimaginigs
Neither one of those is a word and I’m not sure what the difference is between the two so my reemergence on The Top 5 Saturday scene is off to a fantastic start! Either way I’m so glad to be back! As I try to get my groove back on for the Spring/Summer Fling 2020 (I know Amanda remembers last year Summer Fling 2019), I hope the Top 5 Saturday will be a weekend staple! Of course, I had to get approval from the Council of the Ninja Magic Conjuring Cats (CNMCC) and after some serious debate, President Pavel, in a traditional ceremony, announced their stamp of approval:

An Ode To Kiersten White
Let’s just be honest. For all intensive purposes, I could have very easily made this a Top Five Saturday Kiersten White List. She is the queen of retells/reimaginings (I’m just going to say R&R for the rest of this post. Who doesn’t need more R&R right now- funny how we’ve all been told to stay the hell home and yet need R&R more than anything right now?! But I’m going down a rabbit hole). There is no one and I mean no one I trust more than Kiersten white to slam dunk a retell out of the park. And I was planning on doing that but I looked at my bookshelves and realized that wasn’t fair. So, instead, I decided to give kudos to the queen of R&R, instead. THEN give a more well rounded Top 5. Although, she does, still, have two books on the list (I couldn’t resist).
*Two Disclaimers-
1) I’m just going to go in order of the featured image, which was done in no particular order
2) I have reviewed all the books on this list, so I’m not going to go into a long drawn out explanation of why they are on the list, which might make this my shortest post in history– hot damn! All reviews will be linked!
1) The Guinevere Deception (Camelot Rising Book #1) By Kiersten White
My review for The Guinevere Deception is linked above. Camelot Rising (Camelot Rising #2) <– Goodreads Link Do not peek unless you’ve read Guinevere Deception! I do have an ARCK of Camelot Rising. However, it does not release until November, so it will be a while until I am able to read it (grrr… argh)
2) Slayer (Slayer #1) By Kiersten White
Slayer is on the list but I have reviewed both Slayer and Chosen (Slayer #2). I will link both reviews. AS ALWAYS HERE IS YOUR BIG ASS FAIR WARNING BECAUSE I NEVER DO SPOILERS- THIS IS A RARE OCCASION WHERE CHOSEN DEALS IN SPOILERS- NOT JUST FOR SLAYER (that is a given) BUT THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR CHOSEN TOO. I COULDN’T WRITE THAT REVIEW WITHOUT SPOILERS… THERE ARE REASONS. So there is your warning.
That being said– as always, there AREN’T ANY SPOILERS IN THE SLAYER REVIEW- NONE NADA ZILCH.
3) Cursed- Edited by Marie O’Regan and Paul Kane
Titan has put out some stellar anthologies- two of them involving R&Rs. This is the first of two on this list.
4) Wonderland- Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland Edited by Marie O’Regan and Paul Kane
The second of those anthologies from Titan Books is Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
5)His Hideous Heart Edited By Dahlia Adler
His Hideous Heart doesn’t just bring Edgar Allen Poe to the modern day, but it does it through a marginalized lens. Dahlia Adler (Q and A linked) brought together a spectacular line-up of authors, and guess what? She gets to do it again- this time, with Shakespeare. Look out for This Way Madness Lies (goodreads linked so you can shelve it now) this fall (I’ve already started begging for the ARC)!
There you have it – My Top 5 R&Rs… so far… who knows what the year will bring?! Wait— Scratch that… I’m not tempting 2020 about ANYTHING.
What have been your favorite R&Rs? Have you read any on my list? Love them? Hate them? What am I missing out on? Or are there any I should have on my radar? Let me know!!!!! The fling will keep getting updated, so if there are any coming I should know about, tell me!
Nice list! I was struggling to come up with a fifth for my list, but something about your post brought it to mind, so thanks for the inadvertent inspiration!
Thank you!!! I was having the same issue without it being 5 books by Kiersten White LOL. But then I woke up this morning and there it was… I’m glad it helped you think of it! Tag me when it goes through on twitter or come back here and put up your link so I can make sure I see it. My hopping lately has been shamefully sad while I try to get back on a posting schedule.
Great list!

Thank you!!!
Great list!!
I love retellings, I need to read more! I’ll definitely check out some of these 🙂
Some of them I’ve liked, some I haven’t and then there is a vast majority where I’m all Captain America and don’t even have a reference point
Great list! I have Slayer to read – the blurb grabbed my attention and I do love a good retelling.
Thank you!
Great list! I really need to pick up Chosen cause I really enjoyed Slayer (massive Buffy fan here!) ????
If anyone else wrote these books I wouldn’t have even paid attention. Kiersten White? GIVE THEM TO ME!
I missed yesterday’s Top 5 Saturday because I just couldn’t juggle the blog posting with two other reviews haha I haven’t read any of these books but I have the Guinevere Deception on my TBR and I’m looking forward to checking it out 😀 Great list!
We are all juggling so much. I’m just trying to get my posting schedule back on track now for this year’s fling! It is hard! I see you posting so much! You are doing fantastic. This is a perfect time to read it with Camelot Rising coming in November! It is so rare to see a twist on the Unreliable Narrator in YA… I hope you love it!
I love reading your blog you always make me laugh. I actually am not a Kiersten White fan! I had massive issues with And I Darken and ranted about that book with everyone and anyone and haven’t been willing to give her a second chance! And I have to check out what Cursed is because I haven’t heard of it but I do like the look of it. Glad to have you back Susan!
I will stand on the Kiersten White hill forever. But we rarely disagree so I’m sure we can allow this one to go lol. Titanic’s anthology are awesome! I’m glad to be back. Trying to get back into a groove for the 2020 fling! 1.5 months in!
