First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for readers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, readers were hooked on a book by the first lines?
Psst I found this at Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, favorite read, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book
This is not a fairy tale. Certainly it is not one that has been sanitized, homogenized, or Disneyfied, bloodless in every possible sense of the word, beasts and human monsters defanged and claws clipped, children safe and the children saved, the hard truths harvested from hard lives if not lost then obscured, and purposefully so.
Are you ready??!

That’s definitely a way to start a book.
For some reason the like button won’t load for me.
Someone else said that recently and I dont know why. Hopefully it fixed itself now but please let me know if it doesnt???
