First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for readers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, readers were hooked on a book by the first lines?
Psst I found this at Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, favorite read, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book
14 Days LeftYou want a heroine. Someone to root for, to identify with. She can’t be perfect, though, because that’ll just make you feel bad about yourself. A flawed heroine, then. Someone who may break the rules o protect her family but doesn’t kill anyone unless it’s self-defense. Not murder, though, at least not the cold-blooded kind. That’s the first deal breaker.
The second is cheating. Men can get away with that and still be the hero, but a cheating wife is unforgivable. Which means I can’t be your heroine.
I still have a story to tell.
Ok! Are you ready?
I live with magic ninja cats who conjure Pavel and break his ear in the process… and yes I know.. the book case.
Well of course you have a story to tell sweetheart– and lord knows I am HERE FOR IT.

Oooohhhh! ????
I haven’t read this book, although I may read something from this author eventually. Love the cats!!
What a tantalizing opening! And, of course, always great to see the cats.
They are basking in the glory of being recognized. And mad I am still having spam difficulties with my comments that I’m sorting through but I almost got it!
They say thank you! I have not either. It called to my very broken heart. What can I say? Lol
