First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, readers judged it by its opening lines?
Psst I found this at Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, favorite read, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book
“Of all the enemies I have faced during my many years of loyal service to the empire, none have equaled the Rangers of Marzanna in sheer unflinching savagery. It was said they had sacrificed their very humanity in exchange for power and that they worshipped Death itself.”
-General Matteo Fantanelli
Memoirs of a Humble Servant to the Empire, Vol. 8
Ok! Are you ready?

The above?
I’ve never been under an avalanche warning before. What do I know?
And if the boys don’t kill this damn fly they’ve been playing with, they might end up in that avalanche.

Coming in April 2020 From Orbit Books…
Oooh I’ve seen a few posts about this on twitter and I was intrigued. Bump goes the TBR once again ????
One. You can’t blame it on me if someone else started it. And two really Orbit just keeps sending me these books- so blame them.
