Three Quotes, Three Days Tag- Day 1 Of Kaz Brekker

Three Quotes Three Days- Kaz Brekker

I’ve actually seen the tag 3 Quotes, 3 Days for quite a while but it really is something you should be tagged in to do and I’ve never been tagged. I have always wanted to be because it is a really cool kind of chainmail tag. Now I have a chance to explain this thing with Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows.

The amazing Jemma from Fantastic Books and Where to Find Them tagged me in her chain and I’m beginning my journey today! And while everyone can go ahead and throw all the tomatoes at me they want, I really thought about my plan for the next three days.

Sometimes, I wonder what people must think of my fascination with Mr. Brekker. Why in the name of what would I have Kaz on my license plate? How could someone connect to such a miscreant? Well there are reasons. I do not have a penchant for violence and I do not murder, run a gang or a casino, or great heists (on this last point, somewhat unfortunately lol).
However, there are things about Kaz that I guess I do find either a) admirable or b) are strengths I would have found useful in my life circumstances. I’ve never been strong enough in a world that leveled me as a child and left me with a great deal of PTSD to fight back enough. Not revenge, that is his extreme, but enough to do more than just survive, enough to not let the bastards keep dragging me down.

Whether a mental or physical disability, Kaz knows who and what he is and be damned if anyone will use it to limit him and what he will do. If anything, he will let it play you right into what he wants and then some. Someday I will figure that out. Because THAT is a mighty, mighty feat.

The one thing I think Kaz and I have in common is street sense (thank you Brooklyn, NY). He knows the rules and he knows how to make them work for him. And so do I, or so I’ve been told (for the most part). People may, and usually do, get the best of me, unlike Kaz. But not the world as a whole. If both had the best of me, I wouldn’t have made it this far.
And while Kaz, as Inej and Jesper have pointed out, will surprise you like a swarm of bees (wasps?), he does protect his- Inej with Uman, Jesper and jurda, Nina in fjerda and so forth. He doesn’t like to show it and he doesn’t even understand it half the time himself, but he does. And whether being able to provide that protection for those you care most about, or being under that protection? I’d like the ability to do either. And I haven’t.
So with that. I’m going to give you some of my favorite quotes from and/or about Kaz Brekker.

For Day 1 I am nominating:

And with that– here is today– and it is a bit more than a quote but it is necessary.
It is something I have not, in any way shape or form come close to fathoming, let alone master.

“When people see a cripple walking down the street leaning on his cane, what do they feel?” Wylan looked away. People always did when Kaz talked about his limp, as if he didn’t know what he was or how the world saw him. “They feel pity. Now, what do they think when they see me coming?”
Wylan’s mouth quirked up at the corner. “They think they’d better cross the street.”
“You’re not weak because you can’t read. You’re weak because you’re afraid of people seeing your weakness. You’re letting shame decide who you are… Think on it, Wylan… It’s shame that lines my pockets, shame that keeps the Barrel teeming with fools ready to put on a mask just so they can have what they want with no one the wiser for it. We can endure all kinds of pain. It’s shame that eats men whole.”- Kaz Brekker, Crooked Kingdom- Leigh Bardugo
