First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
Psst I found this at Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, favorite read, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book!
“You think Darez Fort was a test.”
She spoke slowly, tasting the words. They were metal on her tongue, bitter as blood.
“Oh yes,” Rabia said eagerly. She leaned forward. “All of it is intended to test us— the unnatural madness, the sickness, the blight on Irinah’s desert. <slight edit for spoilers> And what happened to your husband, his bravery when the madness came, and your survival, it’s proof—”
Ok are you ready ?????????????

And No I Am Still Not Giving WordPress The Chance To Mess This Up…
Realm of Ash (Book of Ambha #2)
Empire of Sand (Book of Ambah #1)
By Tasha Suri
*I believe but will double check- this is also a stand alone but will hold more significance for those who have dead Empire of Sand.*
Coming in November from Orbit! Click the Goodreads link above, add it to your shelf and stayed tuned to this space!
One more of the Orbit titles I am falling over about! More coming Wednesday!
Ahhhh! I’m so jealous you have a copy of this book. EOS was sooooo good, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one ????
I like reading these. I find it fascinating how authors kick start their books to draw their readers in. This one sparks some interest, but doesn’t quite drag me in yet.
I agree! It is fun when I sont even recognize the first sentence of a book I read when another blogger uses it. Then all these memories come flooding back.
Oooh, definitely reading this!
I am jealous of the fact that you’ve got an ARC for Tasha Suri’s second novel in the Book of Ambha series. I really enjoyed the first one last year!
This sounds like an interesting book! Lots of good stuff coming from Orbit this year!
And I don’t even do adult books much but Orbit has me on that train like Amtrak
