High Seas, Mystery And Action Set The Stage For Song of the Abyss by Makiia Lucier- Out 8/27

Song of the Abyss by Makiia Lucier is the second book set in the Tower of Winds landscape. That is to say while it is the second book in a “series,” it is also a stand alone novel. It is not necessary to have read Isle of Blood and Stone to read Song of the Abyss. It is a return to the same world but not a continuation of the same plot.

Thank You Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Edelweiss for an ARC in exchange for an honest Review

Those who have read Isle Blood and Stone will recognize some returning characters. This will bring and added layer of enjoyment and some “easter egg” flair to Song of the Abyss. However, it certainly doesn’t take anything away from readers who have not.
Much like Dark Shores (Review Link) which was a favorite spring release of mine, the sea and island settings in Song of the Abyss jump off the page. Lucier’s world building is superb in creating intricate and distinct kingdoms.
Similarly, her characters garner respect and love from the reader from the get-go. As much as you root for the protagonist, Reyna, you can’t help but love the villain, as well.
The dialogue throughout is incredibly snappy, fun and witty. If you like sarcastic rhetoric among a crew then you will love their banter.
From the initial attack on Reyna’s ship and daring escape. There is non-stop action throughout the story. The added air of not just a mystery, but those with hidden agendas keeps readers hooked.
Song of the Abyss is a quick and suspenseful read that wraps-up Lucier’s work in the Towers of Winds’ world.
