First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
Psst I found this at Becky’s Book Blog. Please go check her out!
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be a current read, ARC, TBR, favorite read, close your eyes and pick a book) and open to the first page.
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book!
I’m going to play with the idea this week by utilizing an original and then a nod to the original…
Here’s this weeks first line/lines of the original…
You will rejoice to hear that no disaster has accompanied the commencement of an enterprise which you have regarded with such evil forebodings.

Thank you for visiting and sharing. You can find me on Twitter @literacybatman.
Ha this sounds hilarious! I will definitely be checking this book out ????
I actually got a death stare from the librarian over this when I first found it. I love the author but has never read the book. I felt like a chastised child. HA!
???? I’ve never read anything by him, but I think I might have to now after that first line!
I know the feeling about DAMN! I want to read that.. and then I look at the amount of books I have checked out from the library on top of how many they have on order for me that haven’t even come out yet… and I’m like well dayum
I read The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein last year and loved it! I can’t wait for her new book The Guinevere Deception.
OMG you and me both… I love her work and have already started begging for the book via email lol
Lol same. I didn’t get a response when I sent the request, so I’m assuming that’s a no ????
Oh see I dont take that lol… I just wait a couple weeks and follow-up. Especially since it isn’t out till fall.
OMG, I never even thought of that. I’m totally going to resend my email!!
